New Delhi, Dec 8, 2008 : On Wednesday, a military chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor.Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rohat was among others. The exact number of casualties is still unknown.Local police have only identified three rescues and are continuing to search for more.
Brigadier L.S.Rawat was also present with General Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat.Lidder, Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Sing, Naik Gursewak, Naik Jaitender Kumar and Naik V.Sai Teja were also in the chopper.Pilots were also present.
Indian Air Force confirmed General Rawat’s presence by tweeting, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat aboard was involved in an accident today near Coonoor (Tamil Nadu).”
According to the force, an inquiry was ordered to determine the cause of the accident.
The rescuers sustained serious injuries and were taken to Wellington cantonment.
