Adelaide, December 13, 2013 : .Former Australian pace bowler Doug Bollinger would like to see Michael Neser replace Josh Hazlewood during the Ashes Second Test starting here in December 16. Hazlewood was officially out of today’s game following a strain to his side sustained during the home team’s first nine-wicket victory at The Gabba.
According to reports, Hazlewood flew from Brisbane to Sydney Sunday afternoon to undergo further evaluation and rehabilitation.
A decision regarding his fitness to participate in the Boxing Day test (Melbourne 26 December) will be made shortly.
As Hazlewood’s replacement, the Cricket Australia selection panel is likely to choose between Michael Neser from Queensland and Jhye Richardson from Western Australia.
Bollinger said that Neser would be his partner, having played in 12 Tests and 39 Internationals for Australia.
Bollinger stated on Monday mornings on SEN 1170 Mornings, “I would love to meet Michael Neser.” He’s well deserved.”He’s been very consistent over the past few years and can bat.he has a Sheffield Shield hundred.”
Neser has yet to be awarded his Baggy Green cap, despite having been a part of the Australian Test team since 2018.Neser, 31, a right-arm seamer with 236 wickets from 124 innings has an average of 24.47 Shield cricket.He is also a valued lower-order batsman who averages 24.48 and has a century.
He also stood out in Australia A’s win over the England Lions, snaring seven wickets for 65 for the match including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
On the other hand, his competitor, Jhye Richardson, 25, has played two Tests against Sri Lanka in 2019 and has taken 23 wickets at an average of 13.43 in four Shield games this season.
Bollinger felt that the selectors have their task cut out as both Richardson and Neser had proved their worth.
“It’s a great problem to have.We’ve still got other guys that can bowl as well.I’m chucking Scott Boland in there.Hits the wicket very hard… in his last Shield game he got a five-for,” said Bollinger.
