Mexico City, January 1, 2019 : .Mexico hosted 31 million tourists from abroad in 2021.This is an increase of 28.1% compared with 2020.On Friday, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Miguel Torruco stated that Mexico’s tourism industry is “strongly recovering” after noting that the country had 24.2 million tourists from abroad in 2020.This was a 46.1 percent decrease compared with 2019.
According to estimates by Ministry, foreign exchange income from visitors abroad amounted to $18.428 trillion in 2021.This is an increase of 66.7 percent compared with 2020.
Xinhua reported that the average hotel occupancy in 2020 was 44.9 percent, which is 19.9 percentage points higher than the 2020 figure.This occurred after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Torruco stated that traveler confidence is improving due to the availability of Covid-19 vaccines in different regions and countries.
He said that the tourism sector’s GDP would reach 7.1% of the overall economy by 2021 and will rise to 8.3% by 2022.
According to estimates, Mexico’s economy may rebound to 6 percent in 2021 after falling 8.2 percentage points in 2020.
