Gurugram, Dec 8, 2008 : Meta (formerly Facebook) unveiled Wednesday its new office in Gurugram.This is believed to be the first independent office in Asia. The office is located in Gurugram in a renovated 130,000 sq.ft.building.It will house the Centre for Fuelling India’s New Economy (CFINE).
The office will be dedicated to skilling and training small business owners, creators, and entrepreneurs in India.
The company also announced its goal to train one million entrepreneurs and small businesses, and 2,50,000 creators over the next three-years.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of state for IT, spoke at the opening of the new Meta office.He stated: “It’s clear that technology is reversibly and deeply changing the trajectory of this country.Prime Minister Narendra Modi established very clear and simple goals in 2014 for how technology will be used in the country.It must transform every Indian’s lives, and it must expand the opportunities and the digital economy.
The Centre will not only help India’s small businesses, but also show the impact of new technology on India’s digital ecosystem.
It will include a dedicated area to demonstrate how technologies such as augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR), can transform sectors like education, commerce, and healthcare.
“We see this office a chance for us to create a space that will host our largest team in India,” said Ajit Mohan (Vice-President and Managing director, Facebook India)
Mohan stated that the office would be open to “anyone who is driving change — creators, small-business owners, entrepreneurs or artists,” and was available for reporters.
The Centre will also facilitate community impact programs around important issues like safety training for children and women.
Mohan stated, “We see the office as a reaffirmation our commitment to this country, and our deep aspiration for to be an ally in a country that’s rapidly changing and where technology will play a role in enhancing lives.And prosperity of future generations.”
