Mathura, Nov 28, : Security in Mathura has been stepped up following the announcement by a right-wing group that it would install an idol dedicated to Lord Krishna in the Shahi Eidgah in December 6. The mosque is located adjacent to the Krishna Janamasthan Temple.
SSP (Mathura), Gaurav Grover stated that “Section144 is already in effect in the district.Strict action will take place against anyone found engaging in rumour-mongering or disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the town.
We have been informed that some organizations are planning to organize an event or a march (to the Eidgah), on December 6.
To instill confidence, the administration established communication with members from the minority community.The SSP appealed for people to cooperate with police to maintain law and order.
Abhishek Tewari (circle officer) assured Mathura’s minority community leaders that there are safeguards in place and stated, “No one will ever be allowed to do any wrong.”
The threat to perform the Eidgah ‘rituals’ has come at a moment when a local court is hearing several petitions seeking’removal of the 17th-century mosque.
However, police stated that no permission has been granted for any program and they will not grant it.
Members of the Quami Eta Manch in Mathura have, however, urged Yogi Adityanath, chief minister, to provide additional security for December 6.
Madhuvan Chaturvedi (founder of the Manch), stated that it has been 53 year since an agreement was made between the managements at the Shahi Eidgah Sansthan and Sri Krishna Janamasthan to maintain the status quo.
The All India Teerth Purohit Mahasabha, a body of more than 90 temple priests from across India that is 60 years old, stated that this issue was being raked up unnecessarily.It also suggested that all parties be more cautious as assembly polls are near in UP.
