Bhubaneswar : , November 23, 2003 – Indian hockey stalwarts Manpreet Sing and PR Sreejesh gave their opinion on preparations for the FIH Jr Hockey World Cup.They said that the Colts look well prepared for the event, and they are likely to keep the 2016 title (Lucknow). This is where the FIH Hockey Junior world Cup begins on November 24, with India facing France in Pool B.Canada and Poland are the other two teams from India’s group.
The team in Bengaluru has done fantastic over the past few months.We (senior teams) recently played against them.”They seemed ready to begin the tournament,” Sreejesh said, having been awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna prize.
Manpreet Singh (India senior team captain) said that the team had actually defeated the senior team in practice games.
They beat us in the first of our games.They have every chance of reaching the final, and I’m confident.
Manpreet said that they could win the trophy if they play together throughout the tournament.
Manpreet said also that he spoke to Vivek Sagar Prasad (India junior team captain) and shared with him his views on the virtues and challenges of staying together in the face reversals.
Vivek has been a friend of mine many times.He told me that the most important thing is for them to stay together as a team.
Both winning and losing are part of the game.There is an instinct to blame others when we lose.But I said that the team shouldn’t do this.Instead, he should just be focused on their game and stay together as one team.
He said that this would help you win every match.
Sreejesh stated that the Indian team will miss their fans, but the experience of playing in the Kalinga Stadium is a great learning opportunity.
I think that the players will be missing playing in front a large crowd.They will be missing the Kalinga Stadium’s beauty, its cheers and the sounds.
The goalkeeper said that he believes the atmosphere would help the team perform well.It will also be an invaluable learning opportunity.
