Patna, Dec 8, 2008 : A Dubai-based electrical engineer was arrested for violating the liquor ban after a bottle of wine was found in his possession, police said Wednesday. He had bought the wine in Dubai for his father as a gift.
According to the police, he was due to board a night train to Bokaro, his home in Jharkhand after landing at Patna airport.
Sujeet Singh Singh, an electrician in a private US-based firm in Dubai was returning home to his wife when he was stopped by police.
He had checked in at a Patna hotel and was waiting for a train.We met him at the hotel where he was staying.
He admitted to having wine in his bag and a bill when he was questioned,” said a Kotwali police official.
Singh did not know about the liquor prohibition in Bihar.
The official stated that he was not drunk at the time he was arrested and that the bottle he had recovered was sealed.
Singh, a Bokaro steel City native from Jharkhand, was returning to his homeland after two years.
