Ramallah, Nov 28, : The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abdul Basma met Ayman Safadi, the Jordanian Foreign Minister, to discuss the Palestinian cause.This was in an effort to increase consultation and deep coordination between the Kingdoms of Jordan and Palestine. “The current situation of the Palestinian territories and pushing forward stalled peace processes in the Middle East were major issues that were discussed at today’s meeting,” Riyad Al-Maliki, Palestinian Foreign Minister, said in a joint news conference after the meeting.
Safadi stated that his visit was part of efforts to create a political horizon that leads “to a comprehensive, just peace on the basis for the two-state solution.” Xinhua reported.
He stated that the basis “encapsulates the establishment of an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital”.
“The current status quo can’t continue and there is no way for them to stay in the stalemate that they are in now,” Safadi stated, adding that “a genuine international movement is needed to move us towards active engagement in pursuit of a solution.”
Safadi stated that the meeting also discussed how important it is to ensure the necessary economic support to the Palestinian Authority in order to continue to serve the Palestinian population.
Direct peace talks between Israel, Palestine and the United States, which were sponsored for nine months by the US, ended in 2014.This was due to deep differences over issues related Jewish settlements and recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.
