London 5 Sep : Liz Truss has been named the new Conservative leader on Monday afternoon and she will be the UK PM on Tuesday, reports in the media claimed.Truss assumes the helm of a nation in the grip of the cost of living crisis after overcoming the challenge of former chancellor Rishi Sunak with the support of 81,326 party members, compared with Rishi Sunak’s 603,399, Daily Mail reported.
The 57 percent to 43 per cent figure which was more than many were expecting was announced by 1922’s chair Sir Graham Brady in a glitzy ceremony at the QE2 Centre in Westminster, the reprt added.
Truss declared it an honour to become the leader of the “greatest political party on Earth’.
“I believe that our values are in tune with people across the British people.I ran for the Conservative Party.
Conservative and I will continue to govern in the role of an Conservative.I will unveil an ambitious plan to cut taxes and expand the country’s economy,”” she said.
She also said: “We will deliver a amazing victory for the Conservative Party in 2024.”
Truss has also paid an ode to Boris Johnson, who will officially transfer the power to her on Tuesday.She said he “got Brexit completed, smashed Jeremy Corbyn and rolled out the vaccine and stood against Vladimir Putin”.
The new premier is facing one of the most challenging in-trays in the past few decades, with inflation fears mounting as the price of gas rises and the Pound falls further.
There is speculation that Truss might decide to make a bold furlough move to freeze energy costs and possibly by lending companies money to help reduce costs.
