Tripoli, Nov 27, : The attack on the Sebha court in the country’s southern city of Sebha was condemned by the Libyan Interior Ministry. “The Interior Ministry condemns an attack on Sebha Appeal Court, by an armed military organization,” read a statement released by the ministry on Friday.
“We warn all obstructive outlawed groups that we will firmly stand against any attempt to undermine the security, frighten people, attack government property and threaten the national sovereignty,” the statement stated.
Local media reported that a group of gunmen attacked the Sebha Court on Thursday as the court was addressing a challenge against the disqualification for presidential candidate Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was the son of Muammar Gaddafi, the late leader.He was overthrown and killed during the 2011 uprising.
According to the commission, the disqualification was based on the recommendations of the Attorney General, Criminal Investigation Department and the Citizenship and Passport Department.
The Libyan government has launched an investigation and increased security to process presidential and parliamentary candidacy challenges.
