Bhopal : , Nov 22, 2012 – A labourer who was a Scheduled Caste member and had his hand chopped off by Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa District employer is now out of danger.
After a lengthy surgery, a team of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa have successfully fixed the hand.

However, it will be at least one week before we can determine if it was successful.

IANS Chief Medical Officer (CMO SGMH) Dr Atul Singh stated that the patient is now safe.

Although surgery was completed and the hand was chopped, it would take approximately one week for us to determine if our efforts were successful.

Ashok Saket, the victim expressed gratitude to police officers for quickly searching for the hand that was chopped off and giving it to him.Saket pointed to his cut left hand and said, “I don’t know whether I can work with this hand, but I thank the police for their quick action in searching for it.”

Saket, who narrates the whole incident to IANS, said that he and four others had worked on construction for five months, but were never paid.Saket stated that whenever he visited him and asked for money (Rs 10,000), Ganesh Mashri (employer, the principal accused) would give him another date.

Saket and Mishra refused to pay money on Saturday when they visited Mishra’s home for the payment.”I need money to feed my kids, so I told them I wouldn’t leave the house until I got my money.Ganesh Mishra entered his house and said, “Wait, I’ll give you my money now.” He quickly emerged with a sword.He was wielding the sword with furious speed before I realized anything.

He attempted to kill me with a chopping of my neck.I saved myself by using my hand.

Mishra immediately sliced my left hand and hurled abuses before fleeing the scene.

Police were notified and the victim was rushed by ambulance to SGMH for treatment.

Mishra was later arrested by police along with others.

The accused were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), section 307 (attempt of murder), and the provisions of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act (prevention atrocities) Act.
