K’taka requests additional grants from Centre to subsist input costs

Tumakuru, Karnataka, Nov 29 : , Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka, said Monday that the state government had already written to the Centre for additional input subsidy grants to compensate farmers who were badly affected by heavy rains.
After participating in a tribute program to Sri Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga Mutt, he spoke to media.

“Recent unseasonal rainfalls have caused massive crop losses across the state.Bommai stated that the Union Secretary for Disaster Management has requested additional grants to compensate the affected farmers.

“We have asked the Centre to send an inter-ministerial team to assess crop loss.The Centre had previously asked the state for additional financial assistance to help with calamity relief.

Bommai stated that the state government had already started crop survey.

The state’s district administration has Rs 685 crore available to pay the input subsidy.

The relief is being provided in many districts where the crop survey data have been uploaded to the Parihara App.

Bommai responded to a question regarding the rise in Covid cases in certain parts of the state.He said that strict precautions were being taken in order to stop and control the spread.Testing has been intensified, containment zones have been established and some test samples have been sent to Genome Sequencing.
