K’taka: Hindu activists stop conversion ‘bid’, burn religious books

Kolar (Karnataka), December 12 : .Tension reigned in Karnataka’s Srinivasapura district.

Hindu activists prevented Christian missionaries from giving religious books to local residents.They also burned religious pamphlets and booksThe police handed four people, who distributed pamphlets and books at an area of Hinduism to them over.

Residents gathered on the spot after Saturdays incident and demanded that police take action to stop "such conversion bids in the future" or they would protest.Police say that the group opposed distribution of books.

The group also claimed that Chintamani residents gathered in a house to perform religious conversions.Police in Srinivasapura registered a case and are currently investigating.

The police have so far not taken any arrests.

The incident which took place ahead of the Karnataka Assemblys Winter Session scheduled to begin from Monday is likely to be raised by the Congress leaders.
