Bengaluru, Nov 24, : , Chief Minister Basavaraj Bombmai visited the rain-affected areas of Bengaluru City on Wednesday and directed officials to complete 30km of Rajakaluves in the city by January 31. Bommai convened a meeting at BBMP’s head office against the backdrop of flooding in various areas of the city from incessant rain.
He stated that the meeting discussed immediate measures to repair and widen Rajakaluves in order to increase their carrying capability to prevent flooding in low-lying areas downstream from the lakes.
The work is being monitored by the executive engineers.
There are 842 km of Rajakaluves in the city, which run through four valleys –Vrishabhavathi (Hebbal), Challaghatta, and Koramangala.
“Work to ensure smooth flow of water was completed on 415 km.Sanction was issued to work on 75 km in 2019-20.40 km have been covered.There are 94 critical areas that need to be fixed.I have received details.
Bommai stated that he had instructed completion of the works within two months.
Bommai stated that he had instructed BWSSB Chairman to complete underground drainage work in many layouts in order to provide a permanent solution.
The BBMP was instructed to delineate the small drains.
Bommai also visited BDS Nagar, and other locations in the Horamavu Ward.He said that flooding has been a problem in the KR Puram assembly constituency.”The flood waters overflowing from Yelahanka’s Hebbal valley flow through KR Puram, Mahadevapura.The Railway Bund is the main obstacle to flooding in Horamavu Ward.He said that he would speak with railway officials to expand the vent.
Rajakaluves has seen 2626 encroachments, of which 1480 have been removed.He said that 714 structures have been demolished and that legal action has been taken.
