Kerala HC slams a woman cop for rude behavior, seeks detailed reports

Kochi, Nov 29, : The Kerala High Court summoned a ‘Pink Police” official of the state Police for her callous behavior towards an eight-year old girl and her father.She accused them of stealing their mobile phones and shamed the public.
The High Court was approached by the girl to seek Rs 5 million in compensation for the ordeal she had to endure.

The court took the woman police officer to task for her behavior on November 19, during hearing the petition.

On Monday, the court again took her to task after viewing the entire video of the official misbehaving with the child and her father, both from the lower strata.

The court stated that one felt mentally disturbed after seeing the visuals.

It was because the woman police officer failed to see the age and gender of the young girl.

“How can she behave like that?” It asked, noting that it seems that police officers today look at the clothing and colour of people.

The court asked the chief of state police for a detailed report.

The Pink Police unit is an all-women team of the Kerala Police that aims to protect women in public, private and digital spaces.

The girl filed a petition stating that, despite numerous pleas, no action was taken against her female police officer.They therefore moved the court for justice.

She said that after public shame, she was in shock and had to go through counselling sessions.Her petition stated that the episode continues to haunt her.

Jayachandran, 38, and his daughter, Attingal, were walking along the main road near Attingal when they saw a large trailer with equipment for the ISRO unit.

Rejitha, a woman officer, discovered her mobile was missing and accused Jayachandran, who was standing next to the police patrol car, of stealing it.She claimed that Jayachandran must have handed the mobile to his eight year-old daughter, who was his accomplice.

She humiliated the father, and threatened to take the daughter to the nearby police station.A large crowd witnessed this.

Rejitha later discovered the mobile phone in the car.The entire episode was recorded by an onlooker who shared it on social networking and it went viral.

Jayachandran approached Anil Kant, the chief of state police, to take action against Rejitha.

His daughter was in shock after being publicly admonished.

Kant promised action and asked South Zone IG Harshita Totaluri to conduct a probe.Rejitha was then transferred.

Rejitha was reportedly transferred to a better location, and no action was taken against her.

The family took a sit-in protesting the inaction of the Kerala Secretariat during September as there was no other action.The family decided to take the matter to court after it was also ignored.

The court also inquired if a transfer was considered a punishment.
