Kejriwal warns citizens against going to riverbanks after the Yamuna’s water levels rise

New Delhi, Aug 14 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday, advised people not to visit the river’s banks following Yamuna’s waters reached the danger level of 205.33 meters.
In a plea to the for people to join with the government, Kejriwal said adequate arrangements were made for people who live close to the Yamuna river.

“The level of the water of Yamuna is rising in Delhi.

I ask everyone to not to go near the river.We have made sufficient arrangements for those who live close to Yamuna.

We are cooperating with the administration and government.We are keeping an eye on the situation and are prepared to respond with any emergency,” Kejriwal tweeted.

His tweet came in the wake of Transportation Minister Kailash Gahlot tweeted: “In the light of the rising levels of water of Yamuna, all agencies are on alert.There is a call to people to stay clear of the river.

We are watching the situation under the guidance of CM Arvind Kejriwal.Camps have been established for the homeless, where it is necessary to arrange for accommodation and food.”

The level of water in Yamuna has reached the dangerous mark of 205.33 meters.However, the level at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) was 205.92 metres on Saturday.

Delhi government has placed all District Magistrates, Irrigation and Control (I&FC) department, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Police and other stakeholders on alert.

The government has requested the authorities concerned to efficiently manage with the flood crisis in coordination with the other authorities.

It has also sent Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) to help evacuate and move people affected to safer areas.The CDVs are doing their best to inform those living in the areas with low elevations about the situation.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) on Thursday issued an advisory saying that the level of water in Yamuna at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) would rise to a height of 205.65 meters due to the of the heavy release of water that was up to 2,21,781 cubic centimeters per hour .This is from Hathnikund Barrage.

According to the state estimate of the hovernment the flood-like condition could be affecting 36,746 people in the capital city.

Around 4,500 are thought to be affected in the North district.The number of affected people is between 6,600 and 8,200 in the NorthEast district.

Similar to that, in the Central and Shahdara districts, the total number of these people could be around 6,670 or 608.in the East and SouthEast district, 12,739 and 4,080, respectively.

In light of the increasing flood-related situation In light of the rising flood-related situation, the Delhi government has evicted an entire number of 7,720 people.This includes 2,095 residents from the NorthEast and 525 from the East, and 625 residents from SouthEast districts.
