For the first time in 30 year of militancy in J&K, top officers of security establishments met with the family members of active ultras. They promised their family members that they would provide all assistance to terrorists who avoid militancy.

Some families were able convince their wards to give up the guns after the move. They returned and are now alive.

They are being killed by those who refuse to follow the dictates of their handlers.

Three TRF militants, Mehraan Yaseen Shaha of Jamalata Srinagar and Arafat Ahmad Sheikh from Nikloora Litter Pulwama, were killed in a shootout at Rambagh in Srinagar on November 24.

Police records show that Mehran Yaseen was involved with several terror crime cases, including the grenade attack on Barbar Shah Srinagar in June 26, where one civilian Mudasir Ahmad Beht of Hanjigund Beerwah died and three others were injured.

Mehran was involved with the murder of Meeran Ali Sheikh at Bulbul Langker Nawa Kadal, July 21, 2021, as well as of Arshad Ahmad at Khanyar, probationary sub-inspector on September 12, 2021.

On October 7, 2021, he was also involved in the murder of Supinder Kour, principal of the school, and Deepak Chand, teacher at Khankah Noorbagh, Srinagar.

Arafat Ahmad, his other aide who was killed in the shootout, was also involved in several terror crimes cases.

This included the murder of a non-local labourer in Litter area in Pulwama, south Kashmir on October 16th.

Another ultra was Manzoor Ahmad, who was involved in the transportation of foreign militants south to central/north Kashmir via his strong OGW network.

According to police, the three militants killed by security forces in Srinagar were hardcore ultras who were on a mission disrupting normal life by throwing stones and killing innocent people. They were young and could have done anything in their lives. They chose death over life.

Two months ago, the top security force commanders met with the families of Shopian militants.

They told them that they can help these boys to stop pursuing violence and death.

They informed them that they were open to accepting surrenders from militants during active operations, as long as they were focusing their attention on militants without weapons who sustain and manage terror activities.

The officers stated that the overall goal was to end the cycle of violence.

Militant handlers alter strategy

Militant handlers across the Line of Control (LoC), have realized that many Kashmiri youth understand that choosing life over death is a sensible choice, and that picking up arms will not serve any purpose.

These handlers appear to have changed their strategy. It is clear that the ultras have not attacked the security forces in the past two months.

Instead, they attack common people and choose soft targets.

They have apparently been instructed to keep the blood from flowing in Kashmir as a message to the people that peace and development are not possible.

The changing tactics of militants is ample evidence that Pakistan is not content to allow the people of J&K to live in peace. It is determined to continue the 30-year-old proxy war at all costs.

The people who sponsor militancy or violence don’t care about the lives of J&K citizens.

They consider J&K people nothing more than tools that are destined to die.Pakistan, which claims to be fighting for Kashmir’s “Azadi”, considers common Kashmiri as cannon fodder.Conflict cannot be sustained without it.

Police and the Army make efforts to protect young people

The J&K police, the army, and other security forces in the Valley make every effort to protect the lives of ordinary people and prevent them becoming the tools of militant handlers. These handlers are using social media to radicalize the youth.

Three teenage boys were stopped by J&K Police from crossing the Line of Control in Kupwara, North Kashmir, just a few days back. All three boys were residents of Meej Pampore and were following the instructions of handlers across the LoC.They were in touch and following their instructions. They were taken into police custody and handed over to their families.

“They are lucky enough that their lives were saved, and now they have the chance to lead normal and progressive lives ahead,” a senior officer in police said.

Any militant who is involved in a gunfight against the security forces is given ample opportunities to surrender.

Family members of militants are often called to persuade them not to keep their arms. Some militants surrender, but many others don’t and lose their lives.

Kashmiris caught in a web

People of Kashmir are trying to get out of the trap they have been in for three decades, despite the difficulties. They are trying, and the security agencies are supporting them.

However, the people on the other side don’t want Kashmir or its people to move forward.

They want them to live in chaos and uncertainty so they can continue fighting their war by making a common Kashmir their shield.

It is now obvious that street protests and stone-pelting incidents, as well as shutdowns, are no longer a part Kashmiris’ lives. However, violence and militancy continue to be a part of their lives.

Recently, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that “I want to state that circumstances have changed but still efforts are being made.” After two years, I can assure you that there will be no militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
