Kasaragod module case: NIA special court sentences ISIS-Daesh conspirator

Ernakulam, Nov 24, : , Nashidul Hamzafar was sentenced to three years in prison by the special court for NIA cases for his involvement in the ISIS Kasaragod case.This sentencing took place a week after he had been convicted by the NIA Special Court here.
According to a NIA release, Hamzafar (28), a Kalpetta resident in Wayanad, Kerala was sentenced to three-years’ harsh imprisonment for the commission of offences in Section 120B of IPC.He was also sentenced to five years of RI with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 125, five years of RI under section 38 of UA (P)A, and five year of RI for the commission of offences in Section 39 of UA (P)A.

This case concerns 14 youth from Kasaragod in Kerala who, along with their families, had fled India between May 2016 and July 2016, and joined ISIS/Daesh to the Islamic Caliphate declared by the terrorist organization.

The original case was registered at Chandera, Kasaragod police station.

It was re-registered on August 24, 2016 by the NIA.Hamzafar was the 16th defendant in the case.

After the criminal conspiracy with Abdul Rashid Abdulla, Ashfak Madeed, and other fugitive ISIS/Daesh activists, Hamzafar had left India on October 3, 2017, and traveled to Muscat, Iran, and finally to Kabul.

Afghan security agencies detained him for illegally entering Afghanistan and trying to join his associates in ISIS/Daesh in October 2017.

After he was deported from Kabul, India to India, Hamzafar was arrested by the NIA.It filed the charges against Hamzafar on March 16, 2019.

Hamzafar pleaded guilty on November 17th to the charges.
