Law enforcement agencies must be able to effectively deal with these malicious attacks.
He addressed the Constitution Day celebration organized by the Supreme Court registry, the Vigyan Bhawan, and stated: “An area that is of grave concern to the judiciary are the increasing attacks against judges.Attacks on judges are on the rise. There are also attacks on the judiciary through the media, especially social media.

“These attacks seem to be sponsored and coordinated. These malicious attacks must be dealt with by law enforcement agencies, especially the Central agencies.

The Governments must create a safe environment for judges and judicial officers to function fearlessly.

The CJI stated that his experience as a lawyer in various roles is what prompted him into calling for “Indianisation” of the Judiciary.

“The judicial system as it exists today in our country is essentially still colonial in its nature. It does not take into account the social realities and local conditions.

The high costs, lengthy procedures, and language used in arguments and judgements all contribute to the alienation of the common man from the judicial systems. He said that people should feel confident approaching the courts.”

He stressed that only when litigants have the opportunity to directly participate in the process and the outcome, their faith will be strengthened.

CJI Ramana stated that PILs are not treated with the same level of judicial attention as letters written by common men.It is sometimes called ‘Publicity Interest Litigation’ because of occasional misuse. We must be vigilant to discourage motivated PILs.”

“We must also acknowledge and thank the immense public benefit that such progressive expansions of constitutional jurisprudence have brought about. He said that the same judiciary, which offers solutions based only on a postcard, paradoxically, struggles for many years to bring regular litigations to their conclusion due to numerous complex reasons.”

CJI also stated that it was “very heartening” to see the number of vacancies at the apex Court.
Reduced to one

“Now, for the first time, there are four women judges on the Supreme Court.

He said that he hoped to see this number increase.

He suggested a multi-pronged approach to address pendency at Supreme Court.

“The Government of India could follow the model for modernizing police stations across India.Modern technology should be available to the new Court complexes in order to speed up justice delivery.

He said that modern equipment with video conferencing facilities is essential for this purpose.
