Hannes Muller restored the two goal cushion at quarter-time.It was not to be.Argentina had to beat Pakistan in their final pool match in order to secure their place in the next eight.

South Africa’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition in Pool A were still alive.

They bounced back from Wednesday’s defeat to Belgium to win a convincing 5-1 victory over Chile.South Africa faces Malaysia on Saturday, knowing that a win could be enough to secure a place in the final eight.

South Africa took a 1-0 lead with Idrees Abdulla’s goal early in the game.They did not increase their advantage until six minutes into the final quarter, when Peter Jarvis doubled the advantage.

Chile responded almost immediately to Aguastin Amoso’s penalty corner.However, strikes from Cameron le Forestier (2) Jacques van Tonder made the difference.

Korea lost their Pool C match 12-5 to South Africa.However, they showed great character to win 5-1 over the USA and keep their hopes alive for a quarter-final spot.

The Koreans led with goals from Lee Seungwoo and Jeong Jun Seong in the first half.Hwang Gyudong’s second quarter double was split by Wyatt Katz’s field goal.

Korea must defeat Spain in their final pool match in order to be guaranteed a place in competition knock-out phase.
