Washington, November 23, : , The 2021 White House Christmas Tree has been presented to Jill Biden, the US First Lady.This tree kicks off the White House’s annual tradition of decorating the White House. According to Xinhua, Monday was the first day that the First Lady received the tree.This tradition has been in place since 1966.
Her office reports that the 18-foot Fraser Fir hails from Peak Farms in Jefferson, North Carolina.It was given by Rusty Estes and Beau Estes to be the 2021 Grand Champion Growers of the National Christmas Tree Association — an award they received under the George W.Bush administration and Barack Obama.
CNN reports that the tree will be decorated in the Blue Room at the White House.
It will also be displayed with a Thanksgiving theme.
The office said that every year the chandelier in the room is taken down to allow for the full height of the Christmas tree.
According to the White House Historical Association, the White House Christmas Tree tradition dates back to 1889 when President Benjamin Harrison put the first tree into the Yellow Room.It was decorated with candles.
It is thought that the tree made its debut at the Blue Room in the Taft administration of 1912
Jacqueline Kennedy, then First Lady, chose a theme to be the Blue Room Tree’s centerpiece in 1961.This tradition continues today.
