Ranchi, Nov 25, : The ruling Jharkhand Mokti Morcha has again taken up arms against the Tata group.
The Tata Cancer Hospital is the latest source of friction.
Banna Gupta, the state Health Minister, has stated that the Tata Trusts have given more land than it needs. The group should take back the unused landFor further action, the minister wrote to the Additional Chief Secretary for the Health Department.Tata Trust requested that 23.5 acres of land be given by the Raghuvar Das government to Tatas to build a state-of-the-art cancer Hospital in Kanke, Ranchi.Tata Trust paid a token amount of Re 1.Ratan Tata, then Chairman of Tata Group, was present at the November 2018 foundation stone-laying ceremony for the proposed 302-bed hospital.A 89-bed hospital with a capacity of 900 beds is now almost complete and will be inaugurated on January 26th 2022.
Banna Gupta, the MLA for Tatanagar Jamshedpur East Zone, has been attacking Tata for the past few days. However, in July last year, when he visited the under-construction hospital for cancer patients, he called it a boon.
The ministers attitude towards the Tatas changed suddenly, however. On November 14, he held a press conference at Jamshedpur in which he accused the Tatas from occupying the sports field and vacant land.
He held a sit-in at Birsa Mundas statue in Jamshedpur on November 16 against Tata, alleging that the Tata group was not fulfilling their social obligations.Gupta claimed that Tata has insulted Birsa Mundra by not gilding his statue on November 15, which is the anniversary of the tribal leader.
The Jharkhand Mokti Morcha in Jamshedpur, and Chaibasa are also opposing the Tata group. On November 17, eight JMM MLAs and their support blocked the gates to various Tata offices, alleging that Tata Cummins and Tata Motors headquarters were being moved to Pune.
The JMM demanded 75% reservation for Tata establishments for locals. If the issue is not resolved, the party threatens an indefinite economic blockade.
Recent statements were made against the Tata group by Champai Soren and Mithilesh Thakur, both state ministers. They accused Tatas neglect of Jharkhands interests.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ranchi Sanjay Seth stated that construction work on the hospital is at its final stage and that the Hemant Soren government is trying obstruct it.He suggested that the Health Minister should rethink his decision to review the land allotment.Failure to do so could lead to protests.
Mahesh Poddar, Rajya Sabha MP for BJP, has also reacted strongly to the news saying, "Somebody should explain what Tata Trust will do with the extra land it holds." Will it build a bungalow or open a shop on the land? It seems strange to suggest that the land should be returned.snc/skp/b #Jharkhand #Tatas #cancer.
