Tokyo 11 August : Japan logged 250,403 new cases of Covid-19 which is a record daily and amidst concerns about the strain on medical services as a result of an influx of the disease that the Health Ministry said.The fuel is the extremely transmissible Omicron BA.5 subvariant, the daily total on Wednesday beat the previous record of 249,830 on the 3rd of August.The total of 251 new deaths attributed to Covid-19 have been confirmed across the nation, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Health Ministry added on Wednesday that the number of patients infected with severe symptoms increased by 16 between Tuesday and 597, which is lower than the peak of last summer’s when serious cases topped 2500 for weeks.
Twenty of Japan’s 47 prefectures recorded record daily numbers of new cases.
The Tokyo metropolitan government reported on Wednesday 34,243 cases of coronavirus that were newly diagnosed and Osaka and Aichi prefectures recorded 23,730 and 18,862 cases respectively.
