ITF Women’s World Tour: Jagmeet causes first ripple in Bengaluru’s 15k event

Bengaluru, Nov 30, : Jagmeet Kalur Grewal upset fifth seed Mihika Yadav in the first round of the US$ 15K KSLTA ITF Women’s World Tour Championship.This allowed her to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament’s opening day.Wildcard Jagmeet Kaur Grewal, a 19-year-old Indian girl, won the first round 3encounter 6-2, 2-6 and 6-3 in just over two hours to advance to Round 2.She will be playing the winner of the match with third seed Sowjanya Bavietti and Snehal Manne on Wednesday.
Soha Sadiq, who defeated American Shria Atturu 6-2, 2-6 to advance to the 16th stage, brought cheers to the crowd.She was joined by seventh seed So-Ra Lee from Korea, who defeated Ramya Natarajan, 6-4, and 6-2.Vaidhehi Chaudhari defeated Nidhi Chulumula, 6-2, in the final singles match.

Wild card entrant Jagmeet admitted that she had to adjust to the bounce because of the altitude.This did not affect her game.She was fast and furious to upset her opponent.However, she struggled to return to the opposite side of the court during the first stages of the match.Jagmeet raced to a 4-0 lead with breaks in the second, third, and fourth games.

Mihika showed signs that she was recovering by winning the two next games.Her opponent, however, returned the favor to win the first set.

Next came a reversal in roles as Mihika with renewed energy made her opponent scramble for ball on both flanks.She was able to take a 4-0 lead with breaks and second and fourth games.

As the match entered the final round, the players held their serves.It was a different Jagmeet for the final set.She served better, moved faster, and was also aided by her opponent’s double faults during crucial junctures.The match went to the decider at 5-0.Mihika fought back and saved a match point with her serve.
Jagmeet served for the match and lost the game twice.

Mihika held her love serve, prolonging the inevitable.

Soha, who had won the Rs 1 lakh Women’s Open at KSLTA October, was able to break through the defense of her opponent and earn her a quick 4-1 lead before taking the set.The match was a fierce battle between the Bengalurean and American.Her forehand was particularly effective, breaking through Shria’s defense.

The American couldn’t hold her serve in the seventh and seventh games of the first set, and the fifth and sixth in the second.Soha eased into the pre-quarters.
