Bengaluru, Nov 28, : Renne Singla and Laalitya Kalluri defeated seeded players to reach the second round for the qualifiers for Sunday’s USD 15K KSLTA International Tennis Tour Championship event.Renne sent Smriti Bhasin, fourth seed, home with a 6-4 win, 7-5 victory.
Laalitya defeated Niditra Rajmohan, sixth seed, in three sets 6-1 2-6, 10-6. Renne, a Haryana 17-year-old, relied on her deep returns.
She waited for her older opponent’s mistakes, and quickly raced to a quick 3-0 lead.Smriti won the next two games.
Renne, however, returned the favor to lead 5-2.Renne lost her serve and the next game while serving for the set.Renne then served out for the final set at 6-4.
The second set was more intensely fought.After holding their serve for four games, the rivals broke each other twice.Renne was now serving at 5-3.Smriti, a 19-year-old Telangana girl, restored parity in the 10th game.Renne lost her serve in the following game to complete the formalities.
Maharashtra’s Laalitya, who had won the first game, was reduced to a spectator in the second set.Her experienced opponent won the remaining six games in a hurry.Laalitya won five consecutive games from 2-2 in the second set, almost replaying the first.Laalitya was the less error-prone player in the decider to qualify for the final qualifying round.
Both players struggled with serves and both received double faults.
The second round winners will be entered into the main draw, which starts on Tuesday.
