They begin their Indian Super League campaign (ISL) here on Tuesday. Hyderabad FC was just a narrow defeat from a top four finish, and Chennaiyin FC fell to eight after achieving a high finish of top-four in the 2019/20 season.
Manolo Marquez, the Spanish coach at Hyderabad FC, had an impact on Hyderabad FC’s performance in the last season.This helped them move up from last season’s bottom table finish to be fifth.
Hyderabad FC scored 29 points last season.This was two more than the FC Goa, who finished fourth.
With 11 draws, the side was joint-highest in league draws last season and will be trying to turn those results into wins this season.
Csaba Laszlo’s Chennaiyin FC was unable to match their 2018/20 season performance and finished eighth with just 20 points.
They were solid at defense, but struggled to score in the last third.This was their lowest league finish.
Chennaiyin also played 11 draws which were the highest number in the league.
Hyderabad FC has gained experience with the addition of Juanan, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Edu Garcia.
These three marquee signings won the ISL before and will help instill a winning mindset in the club’s dressing room.The club also has its core team of players who are most often emerging talent.
Chennaiyin FC on the other side have decided to overhaul their team, retaining Rafael Crivellaro and a few of their international talents.Many of the overseas players have been to Europe during their careers, which could prove useful on and off the pitch.
Their backline has been strengthened by the addition of domestic players such as Narayan Das and Salam Ranjan Sing.
Germanpreet and Rafael Crivellaro may not be able to take part in the match against Hyderabad FC as both are recovering from injuries.
Chennaiyin isn’t happy at Bambolim.They could only manage one win last season in 13 games played there.Chennaiyin lost four and drew eight.
