Iraqi Cleric Commits To Form National Majority Government

Baghdad : Nov 19, 2009 - Moqtada al-Sadr, a prominent Shia cleric in Iraq, has created a plan for Iraqs political process.

It includes the creation of a National Majority Government and dissolution uncontrolled Armed GroupsAl-Sadrs party was the frontrunner at the October 10 elections.

He stated in a televised conference held from Najaf, a Shia holy place of Shia Islam, that the only options are either a National Majority Government or a National Opposition (in Parliament)." Xinhua reports.

Al-Sadr addressed losing parties to the election, saying "The integrity of the elections was witnessed by the world." According to the cleric, the roadmap contained several conditions, such as that "the parties who wish to be part of the government must hold their corrupted persons accountable", and also eliminate uncontrolled arm groups must surrender their arms to the Hashd Shaabi forces.
