Iran has signed the nuclear agreement officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers in July of 2015, committing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the elimination of sanctions against the country. However the the former US president Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the agreement and imposed unilateral sanctions against Tehran which prompted the latter to renounce some of its obligations under the agreement.

The talks to revive the JCPOA began in April 2021 in Vienna but were put on hold in March this year due to of the political differences between Tehran and Washington. The new round of talks began on Thursday after an absence of five months.int/khz.
