Tehran 11th September : The most recent declaration by Britain, France and Germany declaring that they have “serious doubts” about Iran’s plans to revive the nuclear deal of 2015 is “unconstructive” and “in violation of goodwill,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in an announcement posted on its official site. “It is both disappointing and sad that in the present circumstances in which diplomatic exchanges and exchanges of messages continues between negotiations as well as the co-ordinator of the Vienna talks to conclude the talks and conclude the negotiations, the EU troika makes such an announcement in an act that diverges from the direction of the positive approach that was taken during negotiations,” the Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani was quoted on Saturday as saying.
In reference to the “goodwill and serious determination” of Iran to finalise talks regarding the renewal of the Iranian 2015 nuclear agreement, officially referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he warned the European parties “against getting influenced by the propaganda from third parties who opposed the talks from the beginning and are currently doing all efforts to cause negotiations to collapse”.
The spokesperson also warned European nations against resorting to threats, Xinhua news agency reported.
“All those who think they, by threats or sanctions will be able to hinder the Iranian people from fully exercising their rights, and to pursuing their goals should learn from the US’s defeat in its largest effort to pressure Iran,” Kanaani stressed.
He stressed that Iran is not yet ready to conclude the deal.
Kanaani stated that he believes an agreement will be quickly reached if both sides aren’t influenced by external pressures.
The weekend before, France, Germany and Britain have said in an unison statement that Iran “has decided not to take advantage of this crucial diplomatic opportunity” provided by the EU’s recent submission of a “final set of documents” to save the nuclear agreement, expressing their “serious doubts about the intentions of Iran and their commitment to a positive outcome of the JCPOA”.
Iran has signed the JCPOA with major countries around the world in July 2015, committing to halt its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions against the country. However the the former US president Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the agreement and imposed unilateral sanctions against Tehran which prompted Tehran to renounce some of its obligations in the pact.
The JCPOA’s talks for revival started in April 2021 in Vienna but were put on hold in March of this year because of disagreements over politics between Tehran and Washington.
The most recent round of nuclear talks conducted in Austria in the beginning of August following a hiatus of five months.
On August 8th the EU released its “final text” of the draft decision regarding the revival of the JCPOA.
Iran as well as the United States have recently indirectly exchanging opinions regarding the EU proposal.
