San Francisco, Sep 4 : Tech giant Apple’s iPhones have surpassed Android devices to make up over half of the smartphones being used in the US according to an analysis released today.According to Counterpoint Research, the active base of users of iPhones has surpassed the 50 percent mark in the period that ended in June.
In addition, more than 150 other mobile manufacturers are using the Android operating system according to the Financial Times, MacRumors reported.
“Operating systems are similar to religions -they don’t undergo significant changes.
However, over the last four years, the trend has been consistently Android switching to iOS,” Counterpoint’s research director, Jeff Fieldhack, was quoted as saying.
“This is a major event that could be repeated in other countries with high incomes across the world,” Fieldhack added.
Android phones first came on the market in 2008 just a year before the iPhone first came out, and it surpassed the base of iPhone users in 2010 as per the NPD group.
The three years preceding the phone market was heavily influenced by rivals of Nokia, Motorola, Windows and Blackberry.
The “iPhone” has created Apple the biggest business in the world with an estimated market value of $2.5 trillion as per the report.
In 2020, the worldwide base of iPhones has surpassed 1 billion smartphones.Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said that Apple had “set the record in June for those who switch,” which means that users have switched from Android to switch to iOS.
