Green Energy Collaboration: Indian and UK Science Ministers Discuss

New Delhi, Nov 25, : , India’s Science & Technology minister, Dr Jitendra Singh, met online with George Freeman, the United Kingdom Science Minister.The two discussed Green Energy collaboration among the two countries, among other issues.
The India-UK Science & Technology collaboration has been growing rapidly and the joint programme has gone from an almost null base to close to 300-400million pounds now.The Indian Minister informed his British counterpart that the UK has become India’s second largest international partner in research and innovation.

Singh spoke out on the topic of India’s net-zero journey.He said that energy efficiency is a key pillar and that India has taken the lead in various initiatives such as India Solar Alliance, Clean Energy Mission, etc.A release from the Ministry of Science & Technology stated.

He called for greater collaboration between India and the UK in clean and green energy areas.

He said that four technology value chain contribute approximately half of the cumulative CO2 reductions: technologies to widely electrify end use sectors (such as advanced battery), carbon capture, storage and utilisation (CCUS), hydrogen, and hydrogen-related fuels and bioenergy.

He said that the Newton Bhabha MoU offered India UK S&T cooperation the opportunity to go to the next level in a variety of research areas such as energy security, food, agriculture, climate change, environmental studies, as well as the social and cultural changes taking place in India.

Singh stated that India will join the G20 troika within a few days starting December 1, this year.He will also assume the G20 presidency beginning December next year.

He plans to convene G20 leaders’ summit 2023 for the first-time in 2023.

He stated that the S20 group (Science track at G-20) has the most significant responsibility to engage all stakeholders in the spirit of collective vision and develop science-based strategies to counter the multitudes of challenges facing humanity.

He said that the India-UK S & T Partnership covers every aspect of research and innovation, from discovery to development to translation, which is necessary for our nations to reach new heights together.

Singh stated that there is a great need to increase industry-led collaborations and industry participation at both the national and international levels in order to ensure that technology is applied to solve societal problems and spur innovation.
