Report: India to receive 500 mn 5G mobile subscribers by 2027

New Delhi, Nov 30, : , The 5G technology will account for around 39% of Indian mobile subscriptions at the end 2027, according to a new Ericsson report.This is compared to approximately 500 million subscriptions at the time, an estimate by Ericsson.
According to Ericsson’s mobility report, the number of smartphone subscribers is expected to reach 810 million by 2021.It is projected that the country will grow at a CAGR 7 per cent to over 1.2 billion by 2027.

The average traffic per smartphone in India is second in the world, and is expected to rise to 50GB per month by 2027.

The report predicted that India’s total mobile data traffic will grow from 9.4 EB per month in 2020, to 12 EB per monthly in 2021, and will increase more than 4 times to reach 49EB a month in 2027.

Nitin Bansal Head of Ericsson India, and Head of Network Solutions South east Asia, Oceania, and India, Ericsson says that 5G will be a socio-economic multiplier.

Bansal stated in a statement that “We are preparing communication service providers for seamless introduction of 5G to the country based upon our global deployment experience, our innovative and competitive portfolio of 5G as well as the 5G trials that we are doing with Indian operators in order to demonstrate the possibilities with 5G.”

4G is expected in India to be the dominant technology by 2027.However, 4G subscriptions are expected to fall from 790 million in 2020 to 710 million by 2027.

This would represent a 2 percent annual average decline.

The average smartphone traffic has increased to 18.4GB per monthly in 2021 due to people’s increasing dependence on mobile networks to stay connected and work remotely.This is up from 16.1GB per lunar month in 2020.

According to the report, India’s average smartphone traffic is second in the world and is expected to rise to 50GB per month by 2027.

Ericsson recently conducted 5G trials with Airtel, Vi, where it demonstrated enhanced mobile broadband use cases and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), with 5G.

The report found that mobile data traffic has increased by almost 300 percent globally since 2011.
