Agarwal and Ashwin, India’s top players in ICC Rankings, make significant progress

Dubai, Dec 8, 2008 : Indian cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Mayank Agarwal made significant progress in Wednesday’s updated ICC Rankings.
Agarwal is now ranked 11th among Test batting players.

Ashwin, however, has maintained his second place in bowlers rankings and moved to number three in the all-rounders rankings.Ajaz Patel, a New Zealand spinner from Mumbai, has made significant gains since becoming the third bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test innings.

Agarwal’s 150- and 62-run ‘Player Of The Match’ efforts in the second Test against New Zealand in Mumbai have helped him gain 30 positions and reach 11th place in the latest weekly update of the men’s rankings.This update is done on Wednesdays and includes all matches that end on Tuesdays.

He is now just one spot from a career-best position of 10, which he first achieved in November 2019.

Ashwin, who was adjudged “Player of the Series” for taking 14 wickets in two Tests against New Zealand has retained his second-place ranking, which is led by Australia captain Pat Cummins.

Ashwin has earned 43 rating points, bringing him to an overall total of 883.He is 67 points ahead Josh Hazlewood.He is now second among all-rounders, while his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja, who was unable to attend the Mumbai Test because of a right forearm injury to his right forearm, has dropped to fourth on the West Indies’ Jason Holder list.

After finishing with 14 wickets at Mumbai’s second Test, Patel, 33, became the third player to take 10 wickets in a Test innings.

The previous best ranking for the left-arm spinner was 53rd.He had started the Test series against India at 62nd.

Other players who will move up in the rankings following the Mumbai Test include India opener Shubman Gil (up 21 positions to 45th), fast-bowler Mohammad Siraj (4 places to 41st), and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell (26) (up 26 spots to 78th).

Holder, an all-rounder, has moved up one spot to 14th place among bowlers after Wednesday’s update.

This was following the Galle Test win by Sri Lanka by 164 runs.His captain Kraigg Bradwaite (up 10 spots to 39th) is now the West Indies’ top batter.

Nkrumah Bonner is up 17 places to 42nd.

The Player of the Match Dhananjaya De Silva has moved 12 places to 21st in the Galle Test.

He achieved this feat after scoring a unbeaten 155 in his second innings.Significant gains have also been made by Ramesh Mendis and Lasith Embuldeniya, spinners.

Embuldeniya, who finished with seven wickets in match, has moved up five spots to 32nd position.Mendis, however has moved up 18 places to 39th place with an 11-wicket match.
