India requires huge data to identify heart disease in advance

By Mohammed Shafeeq Hyderabad, Dec 5, : India must have its own data on heart diseases in order to combine the data with the most recent technological tools. This will help identify people who might develop a heart condition in the future, said eminent cardiologists.

P.P.Mohanan, President of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI), said that the apex body of cardiologists is trying to collect more data about every type of heart disease in India.Mohanan told IANS.

The 73rd Annual Conference of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) was a great opportunity to discuss the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) in order to detect heart problems early.

The event was attended by 1,000 cardiologists and scientists, engineers, and other healthcare professionals. It covered modern advances in heart care.

“We need big data.CSI has begun efforts in this direction. This is a continuous process and will not happen in a few years.

We need to accumulate big data and then move step by step. All of these data will be used to develop (a method) and identify those who may develop a heart condition in the future.

He said that this will not happen in the next few days, but it will take time.

Along with scientists and engineers from other disciplines, the CSI will be working to develop ‘Deep Neural Networks.

This will allow them to accurately predict heart risks ahead of time by 2030.It is eager to work with the government in order to achieve the goal.

Mohanan however clarified that this was the CSI’s vision.

“People are trying artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict heart disease.

He said that although there is still much to be done, the process is progressing.

Mohanan believes that technology will only enhance the capabilities of cardiologists.

“Essentially, it’s the clinician, the cardiologist, who is going to do all these things. He receives some augmented knowledge through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. He said that nothing is meant to take away his clinical importance or clinical integrity.”

Mohanan stated that there is no magic cure for heart disease.

“Nothing has been done, but people are working in many different ways.Your genetic background, your risk factor profile etc.He noted that prediction is possible with the help of genetic background and risk factor profile.

The conference featured experts in AI and ML who discussed how cardiologists can combine newer knowledge about digitisation.

The cardiologist stated that they would try to absorb all information and give the benefit to exponential information to improve heart care for patients.

The CSI is focusing its efforts on preventive cardiology in the face of growing concerns about cardiac problems in young people.

Mohanan noted that India’s average age for developing heart attacks is 10 years earlier than any other country in the world.

“South Asians are more likely to have heart attacks 10 years before they occur.” Ten-fifteen year ago, heart attacks were rare in people younger than 40 or 45.But some alarming data has emerged.Mohanan stated that Bengaluru’s recent data shows that 25 percent of heart attack patients are younger than 40 years old.

He blamed this trend on the high levels of stress experienced by the young generation, lack of exercise and air pollution.

“Nobody walks.Sitting is the new smoking.Air pollution is increasing in severity. It can cause significant damage to your arteries and lead to hypertension, heart disease, and other conditions. There are new factors on the horizon. He said that we must be extremely vigilant because of all these factors.

Around thirty percent of all deaths worldwide are due to cardiovascular disease.

“Unfortunately, the rate in India is higher.

It could be as high as 35% or even higher.Heart disease is the number-one killer in the world.

He said that heart disease is responsible for 18 million deaths each year.

Mohanan stated that 80 percent of heart disease can be prevented if people are more educated. The CSI aims to raise awareness.

“Indians live in rural areas a lot.We are focusing on raising awareness through various media platforms to make sure people know how to prevent heart attacks, complications from diabetes, high blood pressure, and how to avoid obesity.P.S.Banerjee, CSI’s president elect said that prevention is the best way to solve problems.Banerjee.

The cardiologist stressed the importance of preventive cardiology and said that once a disease has been developed or a complication has occurred, it will be expensive to treat.

Considering the 135 million population, prevention is even more important.

Banerjee believes it will take a few more years before AI applications are popularized for daily monitoring of pulse rate and blood sugar, ECG, and blood pressure.

“This is a large expense. This is not affordable for the poor.

Instead, we help them understand how to recognize a problem in their system and should contact their family doctors immediately,” Banerjee stated.

Small groups of young doctors will visit remote areas to raise awareness.

With the support of local authorities, they will organize seminars that will demonstrate CPR and educate people about lifestyle modifications, such as yoga, exercise, smoking, alcohol, and tobacco.
