According to a new Ericsson report, 5G technology will account for around 39% of Indian mobile subscriptions at the end 2027.This is compared to approximately 500 million subscriptions at the time, which was estimated by last month.According to the latest data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, (TRAI), Reliance Jio now has more than 44.38 million subscribers.Ambani stated that affordability is a key driver of Indias phenomenally rapid growth in mobile subscribers "When we think about affordability in the policy context we only think about affordability of services.

He said that India must ensure affordability of not only services but also devices and applications.Ambani stated that the best way to ensure comprehensive affordability is to adopt futuristic technologies and support policy tools such as the Universal Service Obligation (USO), which can be used for other purposes than services.

He noted that the USO fund could be used to subvention devices for select target groups.Nearly 5% of the license fee paid by telecom operators goes towards the USO Fund.
