IMD warns of heavy rainfalls in TN over the next 4-5 days. NDRF on standby

Chennai, Nov 26 : .Tamil Nadu saw heavy to very heavy rainfalls on Friday, flooding many areas.
21 districts have declared holidays to educational institutions.

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings about heavy rains in many parts of the state, including Chennai, over the next 4-5 days.

IMD forecast that a cyclonic circulation will lie over the Comorin and adjacent Sri Lanka coasts.Strong northeasterly winds are prevailing at lower levels over Tamil Nadu coast, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep, and heavy rain will be falling for the next 4-5 day.

Squally winds, at 60kmph, are likely to blow over Comorin, Gulf of Mannar, and along the South Tamil Nadu coast and adjacent Southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday, Saturday.

Weather Department also warned that heavy to very severe rainfall is likely in Chennai and Nagapattinam, as well as in the delta districts of the state.

The IMD also predicted heavy rains along the entire Tamil Nadu coast.

K.K.S.S.R Ramachandran, Minister of State Revenue and Disaster Management, stated that heavy rains are predicted and two companies from National Disaster Response Force are prepared at Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram.

He told media that the Revenue and Disaster Management Department had prepared for all eventualities, based on the warnings from the Met Department and IMD.

Police stated that all district police chiefs received instructions from the police headquarters regarding the possibility of heavy rains.Firefighters and rescue personnel are also ready for any eventuality.
