Plains in J&K and Ladakh are whipped by icy winds

Srinagar : , Wednesday, December 8, 2008: Cold wave continued across Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh as icy winds from the snow-clad mountains whipped the plains of the two union territories.
Officials from the Meteorological department (MeT), stated that Wednesday’s minimum temperature was still below freezing in the valley and Ladakh region.

“Srinagar had minus0.4, Pahalgam minus3.4, and Gulmarg with minus6.0 as the minimum temperature Wednesday.”

“Drass town in Ladakh had minus 14.5, Leh was minus 8.7, and Kargil was minus 6.8 as the night’s lowest temperature.”

“Jammu City and Katra both had 8.7, Batote 3.9, Banihal 2.5 and Bhaderwah 2.5 as their minimum temperatures,” the MeT official stated, adding that the cold waves conditions are likely to intensify in the coming days because of the clear night sky.
