Helsinki, Nov 29th : , Iceland’s new government leadership was revealed at a press conference.Katrin Jakobsdottir, of the Left-Green Movement, continues to serve as the Prime Minister in a renewed term for the three-party coalition that includes the Independence Party and Progressive Party.
According to Xinhua news agency, the coalition parties have 37 members in the country’s 63-seat parliament.The government program also highlighted climate issues.

Iceland will set a national goal of reducing its emissions by 55% by 2030, compared to 2005.According to Icelandic national broadcaster RUV, the island nation is aiming to reach carbon neutrality by 2040.

It will be “the first state without fossil fuels,” RUV reported.

“There must be agreement about new power plants in order to build a green, carbon-neutral society.

It is important that this is done with care for the sensitive nature of the country, in line with growing energy use in parallel with the phasing-out of fossil fuels,” RUV quoted from the government program.

September 25 was the day that the Icelandic Parliamentary elections were held.

The final confirmation of the election results was delayed to this week, and the new parliament couldn’t convene until the last week.
