Dubai, Nov 25, : The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup had nearly 10,000 hours of live broadcast across 200 countries.This was according to the cricket’s global governing body.
After five years, the tournament returned and saw increased viewership and consumption in India and Pakistan, Australia, UK, Australia, and the strategic market of USA.

The event, which was the largest ever cricket tournament held in Oman and the UAE, broke several viewership records.It also garnered a record television reach (167 million) and record consumption (15.9 billion minutes) in India on Star India Network for the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash.

This match is now the most viewed T20I game in history, surpassing the India-West Indies semi final match from the 2016 edition.

Despite India’s early exit from this tournament, the total TV consumption in India for the entire tournament was 112 billion minutes.

The digital consumption of the tournament was on the rise thanks to Disney+ Hotstar India, which significantly increased the overall TV viewership.

Geoff Allardice, CEO of the ICC, stated in a release that “We are pleased by these outstanding global viewership figures, which demonstrate the power T20I cricket can attract a huge audience across all platforms on linear and digital platforms.”

He said, “It reinforces the belief that there is significant opportunity and appetite for growth the game in our strategic markets including the USA so more fans can enjoy the game, more kids are inspired and sponsors and broadcasters desire to be a part.

The UK saw an increase in viewership for India-Pakistan matches on Sky UK by 60%, while overall viewership for India-Pakistan increased by 7 percent.

The event was broadcast in Pakistan by three new players, namely PTV and ARY.This resulted in a further increase of viewership of 7.3% compared to 2016.

The Fox Network saw an increase of 175 percent in Australia’s viewership.

The tournament was the most viewed on ESPN+ in the USA, recently identified by the ICC as one of the key markets for the sport.

The significant increase in video views was due to the ICC’s partnership and Facebook, which generated 4.3 billion views across all channels, compared with 3.6 billion views for the 2019 edition.

The total consumption of ICC’s digital assets increased, reaching 2.55 billion minutes.The engagement on ICC’s social media channels saw a significant increase at 618 million, which is a 28 per cent jump from the 2019 edition.
