IANS Review: Dil Bekaraar’: A charming rom-com sure to make you nostalgic (IANS Rating ***1/2).

There are also many cameos from famous faces from that era.This rom-com, based on Anuja Chauhan’s 2013 novel, Those Pricey Thakur Girls’, is a family affair.It will also appeal to those who were born in the late 1980s.

The series is set in Delhi and takes us into the home of retired Supreme Court Justice Laxmi Thakur (Raj Babbar), and his wife Mamta, (Poonam Dalon), who have five daughters whose names are listed alphabetically.The oldest is Anjini (Sukhmani sadhana), who is second wife to Antu (Alekh Singal).

Binodini (Anjali Anand), a complex daughter, is the second.She has two spoilt aughters and a husband who tries his best to be an entrepreneur.Chandrakanta, aka Chandu is the third daughter.

She eloped with her boyfriend just days before her wedding.The fourth daughter is the soft-hearted, but fiery Debjani (Sahher Bambba), while the youngest is Eshwari (Medha Shankar).This series consists of ten episodes.

It begins with Debjani being selected to be the English newsreader on the government-owned channel Desh Darpan aka DD.The series core story is about how she falls in love with Dillon Singh Shekhawat (Akshay Obi), an idealistic, antiestablishment journalist who works with the New India Pioneer, helmed Hira (Suhel) Seth.After watching the first few episodes you realize that so much attention is given to matchmaking.

You end up feeling like this is a modernized version of Pride and Prejudice.The period is well documented, with telephone booths with STD connections, news about the Bhopal tragedy and mentions of the cricket matches, Ambassador taxis and vintage cars.

The dialogue department seems to be the only problem.It is filled with the familiar lines "Achche din Ayenge", "The people should know" and "The nation want to know", which are from the 1990s.

Each actor is fully in the character of their characters on the performance front.Apart from Akshay Oberoi, Sahher Bambba and Arjun Berry, Medha Shankar is Eshwari and Arjun Berberry as Sateesh.

As the foul-mouthed Bhudevi Thkur, Padmini Kolhapure stands out as a natural, but unfunny, caricature.Sonali Sachdev as Juliet Shekhawat is similarly adorable, with her Malayali accent.

Ethan and Jason Shekhawat, the brothers from Shekhawat, are also friendly in their own ways.Suhel Seth, the editor, and Chandrachur Sing as Minister Hardik Motla are merely a few of the minuscule roles they play.
