Vienna 3rd of September : International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi has said that two of experts from the agency will remain for the duration of their stay in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
Four of the six experts will be leaving the plant next week while the remaining two experts will remain in the plant in the event of the agencys presence in the long term, Xinhua news agency reported.This week, Grossi led the IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia plant, which was hit by strike after strike in the past few weeks, and has raised international concerns over its safety.
The head of the UN nuclear watchdog said in the press conference on Friday that "Weve seen everything I asked to see, all I asked to see" during the visit "We have witnessed military activity in the area around the plant and I was able see me and my groupholes, impacts and marks on the buildings of the shelling process," he added, in expressing concern for the integrity of the plants physical power supply, personnel and conditions.Grossi said he anticipates putting together an update on the state of the Zaporizhzhia plant by the beginning of next week.
He will also inform the UN Security Council on the issue on Tuesday.The Zaporizhzhia plant, which is one of Europes biggest nuclear power plants has been governed by Russian forces since March 1st however, its Ukrainian personnel have continued to operate the plant.
Ukraine as well as Russia have exchanged accusations of recent attacks on the plant.int/khz/ .
