UN: Humanitarians provide winterization aid to Afghanistan

United Nations (New York), December 1 : .UN humanitarians claim that the UN and its partners are providing winter clothing, heating, fuel, and shelter for thousands of Afghans.
“Previous year trends indicate that in November cases of hypothermia and acute respiratory infections, and death directly or indirectly associated with cold start increasing,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs added Tuesday.

According to the office, 23,800 people were provided winterization assistance in 32 of Afghanistan’s 34 provincials by the world organisation and its partners between September 1st and November 15.As temperatures dropped below freezing, the recipients received heating/fuel assistance, winter clothing via cash modalities, and blanket distributions in-kind.

OCHA reported that the UN had distributed winterization assistance to 32,200 people in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces by Monday.

Xinhua news agency reported that humanitarian partners are also responding to the call for aid.

The UN office said that the world body started distributing winterization cash assistance Monday in Jawzjan province to 1,750 people.The program targets internally displaced and drought-affected persons, returnees and vulnerable host communities, as well as female- and child-headed households, elderly people and people with disabilities.

The 2021 Afghanistan Flash Appeal has been funded at 112 percent or $677 million.

The $729 million funding for the different Humanitarian Response Plan amounts to 84 percent.

The office stated that humanitarians are grateful to the donor community for their generous contributions.

Due to the liquidity and cash crisis in Afghanistan, some financial commitments have not been translated into concrete actions.
