Hockey Junior WC: Covid Testing, Tracking in Full Swing

Bhubaneswar : , Nov 20, 2018 – In an effort to ensure that the Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup is safe and secure, the Odisha government has conducted Covid-19 testing of officials and players who are participating in this sporting event.
The players must be able, despite the challenges of the pandemic, to play and train with confidence.

They should also return home with an enjoyable experience.Vineel Krishna (Sports Secretary, Odisha government) stated that we are striving to make this sporting event memorable, secure, and safe for junior hockey players, who came here with big hopes.

Krishna stated that the event organizers have attempted to overcome the many challenges presented by pandemics and put together an event management system.

Each day, 500 test are performed.

Same-day reports are generated by the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), a division of Indian Council of Medical Research.

Each and every participant, including officials and hotel staff, is retested after 72 hours.

He said that the Sports and Youth Services department in Odisha has designated officials who oversee all aspects of the operation and ensure no one is missing the 72-hour cycle.

Our officials understand that testing and tracking matches records can be difficult and are working to ensure this is done in accordance with match and training schedules.

The Sports secretary said that it shouldn’t be overwhelming for players.

Safety is the main focus of this event.Since the Indian junior team arrived on November 8th, testing began for officials and players.The pace was increased as international teams began arriving on November 15th.

For sample collection at various hotels, a unit from Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and one from Capital Hospital are both stationed.Officials said that 12 units were deployed.

After arriving at the airport the players are transferred to their hotels, where they will be tested by the PPE teams.

All Covid guidelines are followed when conducting RTPCR tests.

Officials said that the players were very open to the Covid norms and guidelines.

After the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, this is the first time an international team has been to the country.

Many teams, including those from India, Germany and Poland have already arrived in Bhubaneswar before the games.A few others will arrive in the next few days.
