Chennai, Nov 29 : , Heavy rains will move to South Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and lash the southern areas until Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department. It added that its intensity will decrease starting Tuesday.
Wind convergence could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfalls in the Southern districts of Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli as well as Thoothukudi, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram.
Moderate rains will be experienced in Chennai and other coastal areas.
According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation that was affecting the Comorin region and the adjacent Sri Lanka coast at the lower level could move and emerge in Arabian Sea.This phenomenon will occur starting Monday.
The easterly winds that blow over the coast areas would push moisture into land, but the moving weather system would bring in the south-westerly wind.
On Sunday, Meenambakkam, West Tambaram, Ennore, Villivakkam, Taramani, Chembarambakam, Sathyabhama University and MRC Nagar and Nungambakkam received heavy rains.
According to the weatherman, the intensity of rains will begin to fall on November 29th.Most places in northern and southern parts receive light-to-moderate rains.
K.K.S.S.R., the state Revenue and Disaster Minister, has been busy.Ramachandran stated that the state government was assessing the damage caused by the rains over the past ten day and will present a report regarding the same to the Chief Minister.
Ramachandran spoke to IANS and stated that the state government, particularly the revenue department, was taking stock of the losses incurred in recent rains.
Ramachandran also said that he would be making a new proposal to the Chief Minister for central assistance.The revenue department and the government have made every effort to address any unforeseen circumstances that may arise from the heavy rains in South Tamil Nadu, Monday and Tuesday.
The minister also stated that the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force were always on standby in case of any problems during the rains.
Ma Subramanian, the State Health Minister, stated that the government would open health check camps at all PHC’s in the state to assess the incidence of rain-related illnesses.
The Omicron threat is looming large so the health department has opened health camps to ensure that the system is fully functional and ready for any eventuality.
