Los Angeles, December 8, 2008 : .Hawaii Governor David Ige declared a state emergency after a strong winter storm poured more than 30 cm of rain in parts of Hawaii.
This is expected to continue. According to Xinhua news agency, the governor announced Monday that Hawaii would be able to use funds to provide quick and efficient relief for suffering, damage, and losses resulting from flooding and other effects caused by heavy rains.
Ige stated that heavy rains from “Kona Low,” a type seasonal cyclone in Hawaii, have flooded parts of Honolulu and knocked out power in large portions of downtown Honolulu.
Hawaiian Electric stated Tuesday that crews are still working to restore electricity service in downtown Honolulu.However, full restoration is expected Wednesday morning.
No deaths have been reported so far from the storm.
