Half a million lives were saved by Covid Vax in Europe in less than one year

A new study has found that covid vaccination has prevented nearly 470,000 deaths in Europe among 60-year-olds and older between December 2020 & November 2021This study, published in Eurosurveillance, shows that it represents slightly more than half (51%) of the expected deaths from Covid during this period.

Researchers, including Jeremy Brown, from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen, estimated how many lives could be saved by Covid vaccination in this age group using data from 33 countries and weekly reported deaths.The data for the period December 2020-2021 was available.

It was analyzed from 33 of 51 countries within the WHO European Region.After the rapid development, licensure, and roll-out several Covid vaccines starting in late 2020, the uptake of vaccines within the priority groups increased to such an extent that by week 45/2021, 81% of people aged 60 and over had received a complete series of vaccinations and 84% had received at least one dose.

They calculated that 51 percent of total deaths were prevented by Covid vaccinations between December 2020 & November 2021.This ranges from 93% of deaths in Iceland to 6% in Ukraine.

The three countries with 60 percent of their population aged 60 years or older were fully vaccinated by week45/2021.(Moldova and Romania) There was a maximum of 20% expected deaths that were avoided over the study period.vc/vd #saved #Covid #Europe.
