Hackers hit over 4K e-commerce portals during festive sales

London, November 22 : Hackers targeted more than 4151 online stores during Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday, taking payment information, and other personal data, according to the National Cyber Security Centre of the UKThe company notified 4151 small businesses sites that their customers payment information was being stolen.

Sarah Lyons (NCSC deputy director for economy, society) stated that small- and medium-sized retailers should know how to protect their websites from being exploited over peak shopping periods by cybercriminals.

Lyons stated in a statement that falling prey to cybercrime can result in reputational damage and loss of customers.A known vulnerability in Magento was the key to compromise the majority of online stores used for skimming, as it is a well-known e-commerce platform.

Retailers should ensure Magento (and any other software) is updated.According to UKs watchdog, the NCSC website provides guidance for running secure websites.
