Industrialists fear that this law could trigger an incident similar to the one that occurred in Gurugram a few years back.

They also claimed that the law was not in the best interests of industries.

“We are pleased with the decision of an industrial association in Gurugram.

We were also concerned by the reservation law and planned to present our concerns before the government. This law has been challenged before the high courts, and we will also support it,” Jagatpal Singh (General Secretary, Sector-37 Industrial Association) told IANS.

Industrialists believed that reservation should be based upon merit. This law will force industries from Haryana to migrate to adjoining states, such as Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

“With this law the industries will face many problems, it won’t be easy to run an industrial unit Haryana. If the government doesn’t repeal this law, then we will have to shift our units in other states such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, etc.Reservations should be made based on merit, not on the basis of where you live.Lokender Tomer, an industrialist, stated that private sector jobs are entirely based on skill and merit.

The industrialists claimed that the law would not only force them into shifting units, but also force outsiders out of the state, which will have an impact on the real estate sector.

“Due to this law there is a potential for increasing ruckus or quarrels within the industrial units.Maruti’s incident can also happen in other industrial units.Singh stated that the government should repeal this law or else industries will be forced from here.”

The Haryana government’s law requiring 75% job reservation for locals will take effect on January 15, 2022.The law will allow reservation for local candidates in private sector jobs that offer a gross monthly income of Rs 30,000 or more.

The law covers mainly private companies, trusts, partnerships, and societies. All shops, showrooms, and industries that employ more than 10 workers must ensure that 75 percent of their staff is local, according to the law.

“The government did no discussion with industrialists or other industrial associations before passing this law. This law will force entrepreneurs to move to other states.Locals are unwilling to work because they aren’t skilled, and the private sector needs skilled workers.Anuj Garg, another industrialist, said that the government should have launched a skills development program before passing such laws.

Representatives of the industrial associations stated that they stand with Haryana’s government, but cannot risk their businesses because they need skilled workers to run their production units.

They stated that 80 percent of the employees are currently from other states because the locals are not able to work in the export, garment, or auto industries.
