Guatemala City 10 August : Guatemala’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance on Wednesday confirmed the first-ever case of monkeypox.The disease was found in an aged 31-year-old in the capital city of Guatemala City.The National Health Laboratory carried out the tests which confirmed the case.It also confirmed the possibility of a case of monkeypox and is currently investigating three other cases the Ministry announced in the release.
The 31-year-old man is living at home and hasn’t required hospitalization.He is still under the watchful eye of medical professionals of the Health Ministry, Xinhua news agency reported.
Monkeypox is transmitted via contact with bodily fluids, blood mucous membranes, skin lesions or any other material that has been which is infected with the virus.
On the 23rd of July on the 23rd of July, the World Health Organisation declared the current outbreak as a “public health emergency of international concern”.
