Graft Case: Anil Deshmukh has had his ED custody extended for 3 days (Ld).

Mumbai, Nov 12, : Anil Deshmukh (ex-Maharashtra home minister) was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

He had been arrested 10 days earlier in an alleged case of money laundering.

Mumbai, Nov 12th : Anil Deshmukh was abducted 10 days ago and taken to the Enforcement Directorate in Mumbai.Strongly contesting the ED plea, Deshmukhs lawyers Vikram Chaudhri and Aniket Nikam said that the former minister appeared before the ED voluntarily and even agreed to be in EDs extended custody though he had been granted judicial custody last week.

Deshmukhs lawyer Vikram Choudhri, Aniket Nikom strongly contested the ED plea.Arguing before Special Judge H.S.H.S., a Special Judge.H.S.Special Judge.Satbhai, they questioned why the chargesheet was filed without arresting dismissed cop Sachin Vaze, the prime accused, who played a key role but remains accused only on paper.

Satbhai and Satbhai argued before Special Judge H.S.Satbhai asked why the charges were not filed against dismissed cop Sachin Vase, the principal accused.However, he remains "accused" only on paper.

Chaudhri and Nikam also asked why the former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh -- currently untraceable -- has not been summoned for probe to record his statement.Chaudhri, Nikam and Nikam also inquired why Param Bir Singh (ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner) hasnt been called for an investigation to take his statement.

The ED seeking further custody is proof that all is not fair and they are acting with malice," Chaudhri said.Chaudhri stated that the EDs request for additional custody was proof of their ineptitude and malice.

Making a plea for extending Deshmukhs custody, ED Special Public Prosecutor Shriram Shirsat submitted it was needed since new facts have emerged in the case which need to be probed.

Further, he contended that Vaze, the accused in the same case, is currently in Mumbai Police custody till Saturday.He also claimed that Vaze was the other accused in the case and is in Mumbai Police custody until Saturday.

Vaze is also being held in Mumbai Police custody, according to him.The ED would move a fresh plea seeking Vazes custody so that he could be confronted with Deshmukh, as the latter has been giving evasive replies.Vaze would be granted custody by the ED if he makes a new request for it.This is to allow him to confront Deshmukh who has given evasive answers.Vaze will be remanded to the ED for custody.

Deshmukh who went for the ED probe on November 1, was arrested in the early hours of November 2 and has been in custody since then.Deshmukh, who was going to the ED probe in November 1st, was taken into custody in the wee hours of November 2, and remains in detention.

The ED lodged the case against the senior Nationalist Congress Party leader based on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR arising out of Singhs letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray last March alleging that Deshmukh had ordered Vaze and others to collect Rs 100 crore per month from Mumbai hoteliers.The ED filed the case against Singh, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party.

It was based on the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI FIR) arising from Singhs March letter to Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Deshmukh had instructed Vaze and other hoteliers in Mumbai to collect’ Rs 100 crore each month.The ED brought the case against the top leader of Nationalist Congress Party based upon the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), FIR arising from Singh’s March 2013 letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thckeray.
